It's been eighteen months since the Raxter School for Girls was put under quarantine. Since the Tox hit and pulled Hetty's life out from under her.

It started slow. First the teachers died one by one. Then it began to infect the students, turning their bodies strange and foreign. Now, cut off from the rest of the world and left to fend for themselves on their island home, the girls don't dare wander outside the school's fence, where the Tox has made the woods wild and dangerous. They wait for the cure they were promised as the Tox seeps into everything.

But when Byatt goes missing, Hetty will do anything to find her, even if it means breaking quarantine and braving the horrors that lie beyond the fence. And when she does, Hetty learns that there's more to their story, to their life at Raxter, than she could have ever thought true.

I wanted to love this book because I absolutely adore it's cover. This book..... was not for me.

I had to switch from physically reading it to listening to it on audiobook. I was bored out of my mind throughout this entire book. This book was extremely gory, but other than that not much really happened.

I don't want to go into any details because I don't want to spoil the book for anyone who may enjoy it. This book has a ton of trigger warnings and I ask everyone to read them before they read this book. The idea of this book sounded great. A school of girls that gets put under quarantine because they have a sickness called the Tox. I think it wasn't executed very well...

I feel like this book should have been longer. Maybe if were an adult book and delved more into the science? I don't know. I'm honestly not sure if I'll pick up another book by this author...
