Synopsis:
Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends.

Every autumn, all through high school, they’ve worked together at the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world. (Not many people know that the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world is in Omaha, Nebraska, but it definitely is.) They say good-bye every Halloween, and they’re reunited every September 1.

But this Halloween is different—Josiah and Deja are finally seniors, and this is their last season at the pumpkin patch. Their last shift together. Their last good-bye.

Josiah’s ready to spend the whole night feeling melancholy about it. Deja isn’t ready to let him. She’s got a plan: What if—instead of moping and the usual slinging lima beans down at the Succotash Hut—they went out with a bang? They could see all the sights! Taste all the snacks! And Josiah could finally talk to that cute girl he’s been mooning over for three years . . .

What if their last shift was an adventure?

Writing style

I feel like it's kind of hard to rate the quality of writing in a graphic novel. It's an easy book to read. I'm sure it was probably easy to write. I love books that have a lot of dialogue and since this is a graphic novel, it has a lot of dialogue.

Plot

I really like the idea of Deja trying to help Josie talk to the girl he's been crushing on for years during their time at the pumpkin patch. I think it was fun getting to watch them try to find her and getting caught up doing other things. It's a cute little read for the fall time.

Characters

I love Deja. She's a genuine character that wants nothing but the best for Josie. Josie doesn't deserve Deja, I don't think. I think he should have paid more attention to her, the person who he has been working with for years rather than a girl he's never met before. He's a bit blind to what's in front of him.

I love all the little side characters that pop up throughout this book. I like that we get to see past relationships of Deja. All the different people she's dated.

I really like Todd. I don't know why. He's goofy.

Josie was my least favorite character in this book. He's just so blind and dumb.

Enjoyment

I had a lot of fun reading this book. It's so quick and quirky. I love it!

Pace

This book moved pretty quickly. Obviously, it's a graphic novel. I just wish I knew more about Deja and Josie outside of the pumpkin patch.

Overall thoughts

I really enjoyed this book. I definitely want to pick up more books by Rainbow Rowell just to see if I'll like a novel by her. I love the fall feeling you get from reading this book. It's definitely a great book to read this time of year!
