Synopsis:

Darkness never dies.

Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land. She finds starting new is not easy while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. She can't outrun her past or her destiny for long.

The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling's game of forbidden magic, and father away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her -- or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.

Review

Why are these books so good? I'm still really enjoying this series and I'm dying to see how it will end. So far with this series, I get hooked within the first chapter. I honestly was scared to read books by Bardugo because I thought I wasn't going to like them. I'm so glad that I'm loving them.

I didn't love this book as much as Shadow and Bone. That has nothing to do with the characters or anything. I just feel like this book was a bit more slow paced than SAB. With that being said, once everything started happening, I was constantly on my toes in anticipation.

I'm still (secretly) in love with The Darkling. Why am I like this? I know I shouldn't love him. I'm just so upset that he was hardly in this book. I think that's another reason why I didn't love this book as much as SAB. I need more Darkling! All the scenes that he popped up in with Alina made my heart swoooon!

Alina is still a darling. I love her so much. I want the world for her. She's such a caring person, even with her powers messing with her head. She cares more about others than she does herself and she's a sweetheart because of that.

I need more romance. If I'm not getting romance from The Darkling, I at least need some with Mal. I have grown to like him. Not as much as The Darkling. I just want something I can lust after!

All in all, I'm still loving this series. I'm dying to see what happens. I'm really kind of hoping for a not-so-happy ending. I don't know why I want this series to end on a sad/bad note. I feel like it would ruin the story for me if it ends happily. DON'T SPOIL IT FOR ME.

4/5 Stars
