After narrowly escaping death at the hands of the Dames Blanches, Lou, Reid, Coco, and Ansel are on the run from coven, kingdom, and church—fugitives with nowhere to hide.
To elude the scores of witches and throngs of chasseurs at their heels, Lou and Reid need allies. Strong ones. But protection comes at a price, and the group is forced to embark on separate quests to build their forces. As Lou and Reid try to close the widening rift between them, the dastardly Morgane baits them in a lethal game of cat and mouse that threatens to destroy something worth more than any coven.
I think that was the worst cliffhanger I have ever read. Shelby. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO LEAVE ME HANGING LIKE THAT? That's rude.
Now, I didn't like this book as much as I liked Serpent & Dove. I feel like this installment was missing all that banter that I loved in S&D. That banter is the main thing that I enjoyed. It's kind of a bummer that there wasn't much of it in this book.
I feel like this book was a big 528 page set up for the third, maybe final book? I just felt like there was constantly something going on and I kinda got tired of it... The things that happened in this book didn't keep me captivated like S&D did.
I also think it kind of threw me off when Lou started going dark. I wasn't expecting that and I don't think that was mentioned at all in the first book. Or did I miss that?
There's a character that got completely screwed over. I'm pretty upset about what happened. My heart was broke. I'm still sad over it. She did him dirty.
Even though I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first, I'm still giving it four stars. Reid is growing and I really love that for him. I can't wait to see how much more he grows in the next book.
