Synopsis:
Celaena has survived deadly contests and shattering heartbreak―but at an unspeakable cost. Now, she must travel to a new land to confront her darkest truth . . . a truth about her heritage that could change her life―and her future―forever. Meanwhile, brutal and monstrous forces are gathering on the horizon, intent on enslaving her world. Will Celaena find the strength to not only fight her inner demons, but to take on the evil that is about to be unleashed?
I read this book in almost a month. Aka, it was a slow read for me. I don’t want to blame it on going on vacation. The first part of this book was really slow and I didn’t get really invested until about the middle of the book. I just wanted more action with this book and I’m really hoping the next book won’t be as slow.
I’m not even going to lie, I think reading Manon’s parts put me in a reading slump. I don’t really care for her character yet and I really disliked all of her parts in this book. I’m really hoping she becomes something different. I just really dislike how hateful she is.
I loved alternating between Aelin, Dorian and Chaol’s perspectives. I loved seeing different things happening and in different places. I love how much this series has expanded. I’m glad to finally see outside of that horrid glass castle.
I also really love Rowan. Like, drool. I thought I loved Chaol but I prefer Rowan. I’m getting really wishy-washy with these characters that I want with Aelin. But I’m also pretty confused. I could have sworn I read somewhere in this book that Rowan was her cousin? Please tell me I read wrong because I really want them together but I do not want incest.
I love Aelin much more than Celaena. She’s a stronger person. She’s grown so much in this book. I can’t wait to see her become the queen she was born to be.
I feel like all of the characters grew in this book. I really love the development that each character got. I feel like you got so much more from this series because of this growth. Poor Chaol is so conflicted on what he should do. What side he should be on. Dorian is trying to live with his magic and learn to control it. With that, he falls for a healer. The healer also helps him maintain his magic.
The ending was abrupt for me. Everything happened too quickly and I just don’t like the way it ended.
I’m scared to see what happens to Dorian and Aedion. I just wanted a somewhat happy ending and I didn’t get it 🙁
